Guiding Children's Learning of Mathematics

 

Understanding how children learn is the foundation of teaching; teachers must understand learning theories to design appropriate instructional activities.

 

Current research supports effective teaching practices such as discussion and writing in mathematics, active engagement with significant mathematical tasks, higher order thinking about mathematical problems, and use of models, materials, and multiple representations of mathematical concepts.
