PRAYER IS NOT THAT EASY

PRAYER IS NOT THAT EASY

A holy man driving a car met a beggar on the way.

The beggar exclaimed, “If only I too became a holy man, a man of prayer, I would have a car!”

“Prayer is not that easy,” said the holy man. If you say, “toon thakura tuma pai ardaas,” with a concentrated mind, the car belongs to you!”

“That is wonderful,” said the astonished beggar.

Joining his hands and closing his eyes, he said the prayer aloud:

“Toon Thakura tuma pai ardaas

Jeea pinda sabh teri raas…”

Suddenly he opened his eyes and asked, “Shall I have a garage along with car? Else where would I keep it?”

It has been truly said that –

God does not accept the arithmetic of our prayers – how many they are;

Not the rhetoric of our prayers – how elegant they are;

Not the music of our prayers – how melodious they are;

Not the logic of our prayers – ho methodical they are;

But the sincerity of our prayers – how heart-felt they are!
