MOTHER’S LOVE IS NOT INCLUDED

MOTHER’S LOVE IS NOT INCLUDED

A little boy left a brief note on his mother’s bed. In it, he had listed all the chores he had completed that day. The note ran thus:

For washing the car - $ 2
For cleaning the table - $ 2
For running the errands - $ 4
For looking after the baby - $ 2
Total - $ 10

The mother pinned a ten-dollar note to the “bill”. She attached her own response, along with the payment.

For taking care of you -- nil
For teaching you to walk -- nil
For preparing your breakfast -- nil
For making your bed -- nil
For doing your laundry -- nil
For nursing you, when you were sick -- nil
Total -- nil

She left the note on her son’s bed along with the ten-dollar bill.

When the boy returned home from school, he was thrilled to see the ten-dollar note on his bed. Then he read his mother’s note, and felt ashamed. With tears in his eyes, he went to his mother and put the ten-dollar note on the table before her.

“I’m sorry, mom!” he whispered, putting his arms around her.

Worried about neglected children, breaking homes and crumbling family values, western countries are beginning to take a new look at the role of a wife and mother in society. Some European countries are even making statutory payments to women who choose to stay home and look after their families, rather than go out to work. These women are now referred to as ‘home-makers’ for the old-fashioned word ‘housewife’ is considered to be derogatory. However, one problem has haunted the policy makers in these countries. How is a homemaker’s net worth to be calculated in terms of money?

A newspaper in the United States commissioned a reputed Financial Services Institution to assess, in monetary terms, the worth of a mother’s service. For the role she plays as a dietician, caretaker, psychologist and nurse, her monthly worth was calculated to be an astounding $ 42,000.

In this staggering sum, the mother’s love is not included!
