Shampur (Orissa): A mock marriage ceremony meant for seeking good matrimonial alliance was held here on Saturday on the occasion of ‘Kumari Poornima’, an ancient custom of Orissa.

Two underage girls performed bride and groom in the mock wedding ceremony in Shampur village.

Village’s unmarried girls assembled on this occasion to witness the mock marriage as a 10-year-old tied nuptial knot with a seven-year-old here.

The objective of the ceremony is to seek blessings of God for good husbands for all village girls of marriageable age.

“Rituals are like original marriage. Starting from bringing holy water from the seven homes to going to the temple before marriage to take the blessings of God. Everything is done as per the rituals of a Hindu marriage,” said Pushplata Sahoo, a villager.

The ritual is being held for the past 27 years in Shampur, and the expenses are borne by donations from local residents for the ceremony.

Dressed in wedding dress, the girls playing the ‘groom’ and the ‘bride’ seemed quite excited with the ceremony.

“I am happy today as I’m dressed in bridal finery for the marriage,” said 10-year-old Varsha, the ‘bride’.

The girl performing ‘groom’ in the ceremony also seemed thrilled at the prospect of getting a good husband after performing this ritual.

“Today is my marriage. This is a ritual and we believe that by performing this, we will get good husbands once we grow up,” added Pooja, the ‘groom’.

After the wedding, the mock bride and the groom were taken back to their homes. (ANI)

NEVER UNDER ESTIMATE – WOMEN ARE HIGHLY CLEVER

NEVER UNDER ESTIMATE – WOMEN ARE HIGHLY CLEVER

A woman and a man are involved in a car accident on a snowy, cold Monday morning; it's a bad one. Both of their cars are totally demolished, but amazingly neither of them is hurt. God works in mysterious ways.

After they crawl out of their cars, the man is yelling about women drivers.

The woman says, 'So, you're a man. That's interesting. I'm a woman. Wow, just look at our cars! There's nothing left, but we're unhurt. This must be a sign from God that we should be friends and live in peace for the rest of our days.'

Flattered, the man replies, 'Oh yes, I agree completely, this must be a sign from God! But you're still at fault...women shouldn't be allowed to drive.'

The woman continues, 'And look at this, here's another miracle. My car is completely demolished but this bottle of wine didn't break. Surely God wants us to drink this wine and celebrate our good fortune.' She hands the bottle to the man.

The man nods his head in agreement, opens it and drinks half the bottle and then hands it back to the woman.

The woman takes the bottle, puts the cap back on and hands it back to the man.

The man asks, 'Aren't you having any?'

The woman replies, 'No. I think I'll just wait for the police...'

STRONG UNBOUNDED FAITH BRINGS SUCCESS

STRONG UNBOUNDED FAITH BRINGS SUCCESS

Nobunaga, the distinguished Japanese General, was leading a crucial campaign against a powerful enemy.

At a crucial juncture, in the ongoing battle, he made a decision to take the offensive and attack the enemy - this, despite the fact he was outnumbered ten to one, by the enemy.

The General was absolutely confident that he would be victorious. But his soldiers had their own misgivings.

“Are you sure we should attack, sir?” they kept asking him, again and again.

“Let us stop and pray.” The General told them. “That will help us to take the right decision.”

The entire regiment knelt down in prayer. When the prayer was over, Nobunaga said to his men, “I shall now toss a coin. If it is heads – we win. If it is tails – we lose. Let our destiny be revealed to us!”

He tossed the coin. The soldiers crowded around him to see the toss. It was heads! They were sure to win! Their morale received a tremendous boost, and they followed their General with great courage and faith.

Sure enough, the attack was successful. The enemy was routed!

The next day, one of his soldiers said to Nobunaga, “Destiny was on our side, sir!”

“But of course!” agreed the General, showing a doubled coin – “with heads on both sides!”
